The Serif-Less Letters of John Soane was originaly published in the book 'Pen, print and communication in the eighteenth century' published by Liverpool University Press in 2020. There has been a two-year publishers embargo on this important chapter, but it is available to download NOW as a fully illustrated version in colour from August 2022 onwards. Soane's distinctive serif-less letterforms which he used as titling on many of his drawings represent the pioneering development of Sans serif typography in the eighteenth century following his tour of Italy, and as such Sir John Soane is considered a 'Prophet of Modernism.'
